Welcome to Cultivate to Plate!
This blog follows what has grown or what is being grown in the backyard along with visits to favorite garden spots and nurseries around us – and is mostly updated frequently depending on what is happening throughout the year with the seasons. Also, I like to delve into what I’m growing so you’ll find lots of info on plant cultivars and vegetable varieties.
As the name suggests, this blog follows the plant from growing it in all its stages to finishing it in the kitchen – cooking many of the things we grow, sharing recipes from beloved garden books, and harvesting and preserving what we’ve worked so hard to grow so that we can enjoy it later in the year.
I live in Zone 9b so watering is always an issue. But, having said that there are a lot of watering-sapping tropical plants that grow well here with efficient watering. Many of the plants you’ll find here have been planted in the garden somewhere, and some plants are on the wish list for later years’ harvests.
You’ll find info on vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, edible flowers, and much more. A little something about me: I’m a breast cancer survivor and while I’m not vegan, I appreciate and like to feed myself and my family organic pesticide-free fruits and veggies. My goal with this blog: By sharing what my family does in the backyard I’ll inspire someone else to dig in the dirt, too. Because anyone can garden. Plus, it’s fun to get a little dirty.
